Used all month, billed after
Most business services you already buy work this way: electricity and your accountant both bill after the work. A postpaid AI phone plan follows the same pattern.
During the month, your lines work as normal. The AI answers every call, 24 hours a day, and tells each caller it is an AI at the start. It books into Google Calendar, puts callers through to the right person, takes messages and marks urgent calls. Nothing about the service depends on a balance, so a busy week does not stop a line from answering.
When the month ends, the calls in it are added up, the invoice is produced, and it is sent to you. That is the whole cycle.
Why this suits some businesses better
There are two practical reasons.
First, volume is hard to predict. A group with many sites, or an agency with many client lines, may find one month much busier than another, and a fixed bundle of minutes is the wrong shape for that.
Second, finance teams like invoices. A purchase order, an approval, a supplier record and a payment run are all built around invoices. A card payment that appears on a statement is harder to match to a budget line.
What is on the invoice
The invoice is a record of the month, and it is built from the calls themselves rather than from an estimate. At a general level it shows:
- The billing period. The month the invoice covers.
- Usage across your lines. What your lines used in that period, added up into one total.
- The total due. One figure for the whole account.
Because every call is also recorded and transcribed in your account with a summary, the invoice is not a black box. If a line looks busier than you expected, you can open the calls behind it and see what the callers wanted.
We do not publish the rates on this site. They depend on the shape of the account, such as how many lines it has and which countries they are in, and we agree them with you when the account is opened.
One invoice for many lines
This is the part that changes the workload. If you run twelve locations, you do not receive twelve bills, and you do not top up twelve balances. You receive one invoice, and it covers the usage across every line.
For an agency, the same idea applies to client lines. Several client businesses can sit under one account, and the usage rolls up to the agency's invoice. The agency guide on our blog covers how to set that up.
Paying by card through a hosted invoice
Invoiced does not have to mean "pay by bank transfer and chase the reference". The invoice is delivered as a hosted invoice: a web page that shows the invoice and lets you pay it.
In practice:
- The invoice is sent to the billing contact on the account.
- The contact opens the hosted invoice page.
- They can read the invoice there and pay it by card.
So a team that wants an invoice for its records can still settle it by card. If your accounts team pays by another route, tell us when you request access and we will confirm what is possible for your account.
Postpaid or prepaid: how to choose
Both sides of the platform run the same AI phone. The difference is how you pay for it, and who it is for.
| Prepaid | Postpaid | |
|---|---|---|
| When you pay | Before, by buying a plan | After, by monthly invoice |
| How you start | Anyone can sign up | By invitation: request access |
| What you buy | A plan that runs for a set number of days, with minutes included | Usage across the month, invoiced |
| Typical buyer | One business, one or a few lines | Many lines, locations, fleets, agencies |
| Paid by | Card | Invoice, with a card option |
| The AI phone | The same | The same |
Choose prepaid if you run one business with a small number of lines, want to know your cost up front and are happy paying by card. You can see the plans on the prepaid.ai pricing page, and you can try the AI in your browser before paying anything.
Choose postpaid if any of these are true:
- You have many lines and want one document each month.
- Your usage swings from month to month and a fixed bundle would be the wrong size.
- Your finance team works on invoices and will not set up a card for a service like this.
- You run phones for other businesses and need the usage to roll up to you.
If you are on the fence, starting on prepaid is a sensible step, because it is open to anyone. One account is on one product at a time, so moving across is something we arrange with you rather than a button you press.
What stays the same either way
It is worth saying plainly that you are not choosing between two different products. Both sides share one platform, so you get the same things on postpaid as on prepaid:
- Local numbers in New Zealand, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.
- An AI that learns your business from its website and says it is an AI at the start of each call.
- Booking into Google Calendar during the call.
- Transfers to a person, messages with details emailed to you, and urgent calls marked.
- Recording and transcription of every call, with a summary.
- An API, webhooks and an MCP server for your developers.
How to ask for postpaid
postpaid.ai is invitation-only for now.
- Use Request access at app.postpaid.ai.
- Tell us how many lines you expect, where they are, and who will receive the invoice.
- Our team gets in touch, and we agree the terms for the account together.
- We open the account, and you set up your first line.
If you have questions before you ask for access, the contact page is the easiest route. The home page explains what postpaid.ai is for.
FAQ
When is the invoice sent?
After the month it covers. You use the service first and are billed afterwards.
Does one invoice cover all my lines?
Yes. Usage across all your lines is added up and appears on one invoice.
Can I pay an invoice by card?
Yes. The invoice is delivered as a hosted page where it can be read and paid by card.
What does a postpaid plan cost?
We do not publish postpaid pricing, because it depends on the shape of the account. We agree it with you when we open the account.
Can I see what I am being billed for?
Yes. Every call is recorded and transcribed with a summary in your account, so you can open the calls behind any figure.
Can I move between prepaid and postpaid?
Yes, as a request. One account is on one product at a time, so we arrange the move with you.
